The Student Learning Centers @ NAU

Hey, all! I have commented on a few posts so far, but just to throw this out there - I have worked for the South Student Learning Center for several years and love it! I fully believe in our goal; helping students succeed is our number one mission.

There are two centers on campus: NSLC in the field house, extension x5524 and SSLC in the Student Tech Center on south campus in between Franke and the Suites, extension x7391.

Each center tutors a ton of subjects, but they typically focus on the subjects held on their side of campus. Ex: North works with chem and bio a lot and South works with accounting and engineering. However, there are many more subjects offered than I can remember. Call either center and we can hook you up.

In addition to free one-on-one tutoring, North holds drop in for chem and bio, SI happens all around campus, South has study group tutoring, exam reviews take place, in-hall tutoring happens, both centers host the writing center, MAP happens in Adel, we do online tutoring for math and comp and much, much more.

The only way to truly know what all we have to fit your needs is to call.

At South, in addition to all that was described above, we do GMAT/GRE (something upperclassmen might be looking at now...) prep and AIMS prep for high schools. Again, calling is your best bet.

If you are on the other side of the table and thrive in the subjects other describe as challenging, give us a call. We are always looking for tutors and your subject might be on the hiring list. Decent pay, flexible hours, and opportunities for advancement are available.

I could write a marketing flyer for this. I should talk to my boss! ;-)

If you have any questions or have a student who wants to seek out services, you can catch me in class or at the South Student Learning Center during the semester. If you're taking Summer classes and have questions, you can find me at North!

With so much going on as described above, you can imagine my(/our) jobs get stressful out on the front lines, so we have a center-wide motto: Think like a duck. Long story short, here's our weekly baby animal:

  1. Learning how to become an effective student is imperative for incoming freshmen. I've actively sought to become a contributing member of the SLC community and staff, because I've always loved helping people through when things get difficult. This is probably one of the most important resources on campus, because, statistically, students who frequent programs like this have a much higher rate of success in academics.

  2. This is one of my favorite resources on campus because of how much these two centers provide for students. I love the academic learning sessions and free tutoring. It provides a great option for students from all backgrounds, and will definitely be a valuable resource for incoming first generation students who might struggle at first with participating actively with their academics.
