1- A Baby Sloth

How do you see your role as a peer mentor/how do you see yourself as a peer mentor?
What do you feel are some of your strengths and/or areas needing improvement?

To me, the title of a peer mentor is more of a vague idea, something that changes from student to student depending on their needs as an individual. For one person, I hope to be the academic push they need, but for another, I hope to be their resource for employment searching, resume building or a go to for questions about internships. I hope that I can simply be what my students will need me to be.

In the areas of finances, employment and academics, I feel that I thrive. I understand (and have) a good credit history and credit card. I have my own car and rent my own apartment with independent utilities. I feel that I balance school well with my (current) three jobs and an internship. I think that in these areas, I will be able to give sound advice.

In the more social areas, I could stand to improve. I haven't gone out a lot since I came to college (well, ever, really) and most of the social events I attend are planned and written in a day book. As far as mistakes go, I'm sure I've made plenty - just as many as anyone else - but not really in the party/social area. I'm not sure how I can improve myself in this area other than going out and getting in trouble just for experience, but I do need to work on it.

In other news...
Here's a super swell baby sloth to finish off the night:

  1. Ashleigh,
I feel your areas of improvement. I am also in need of more social experience. As of this year, I really do not go out a lot. We can always hang out and improve our social skills together!

PS. You are amazing just for putting a baby sloth and putting the color in purple. Is that your favorite color?

  2. The sloth was a great and entertaining touch to the blog! As a peer mentor, I always viewed it as an academic or social assistants but you make a great point about having financial experience. Not a lot of people can say they have bought their own car, rent their own apartment, balance three jobs, and have an internship. Kudos to you!

  3. Thanks, ladies! And Celena - I think I prefer like a maroon, but I thought it looked pretty!
