Hello Everyone!

During the first year of college, majority of the students, especially students right out of high school, go through this emotional, mentally, and physically roller coaster ride. Students are on an all-time high rush during the first few weeks. Some is their first time away from home, others are excited to start classes and see what college life has to offer. After the rush, students are slowly crashing down because they are either homesick, received a bad grade on an exam, or classes do not seem as exciting as they used to be. And this the roller coaster majority of our first year college students experiences. As peer mentors, we have to help them find ways to overcome those lows. Peer mentors related with their students on similar levels as when they were first year college students. We are here to help or assisted as much as we can to encourage students during their first college school year.

Despite having different issues are situations with others, I can still relate to them on a personal level and understand what they are going through. I am not saying I can relate to everyone but with the people I have interacted with so far in my life, I have been able to. I feel that is a great strength as a peer mentor because you want to be able to understand with your students and help them as much as possible through issues they may be facing and never forget to award them when they have achieved a goal. A huge weakness is that I may at times talk too much during my one on ones with a students and I have to remind myself to be quite. One challenge I see myself facing is caring too much not being able to help them through an issue one of my students may be facing.
