1- Peer Mentoring
A peer mentor is someone who is able to guide the students first experience and help them transition to college by being there for them when needed and giving them advice and knowledge about how to get through the first year of college successfully. It is important to have a peer mentor who is reliable, trustworthy and fun who can be like a friend. As a peer mentor, I will make sure to uphold these obligations to make sure first year students feel safe, welcome and have overall the best experience for their first year. Some of my strengths that will contribute to the role of being a peer mentor is that I am very empathetic and will be able to relate to a lot of student's problems and have compassion for them because it is not easy adjusting to a new school and especially leaving home. I will always be there for my group and make sure that whenever they need help or advice, I do everything that i can to help them and make sure that they feel they can always come to me. Also I am a good listener and am good at doing what is right and taking leadership when I need to so that will help for being an effective and positive peer mentor. I am also optimistic and will solve a solution in the best positive outlook that I can without getting mad or blowing up at anyone. Some areas that I will need to work on in being a peer mentor is not doubting myself and constantly reminding myself that I got this job for a reason and can do this. Also, I struggle with managing students when they are misbehaving so that will be a new experience for me on how to be a friend and peer mentor at the same time.

I really like what you have written, one thing I would say about giving your students advice is make sure its more of a suggestions and that if you feel 100% about giving those suggestions especially when it comes to serious issues. Also, if you do not know what to suggest asking your supervisor or another mentor is always a great help. I will say I doubting myself a lot this is a whole new experience but have faith that you will be the best mentor you can be. Each time your mentee says thank you for that, that really helped, or that their glad you are their mentor always remember those moments because it just a great reminder that this is for you. When it comes to misbehaving students, we all have been there so if that does happen to you just know that you have people around you that will help you through the situation and its okay to feel how you feel about it, we all want to be professional but there may come a time that something may get to you... Not always but if so now you are not alone and you will be provided the tools to help you get through a misbehaving student.
