1- Peer Mentor Role

As a peer mentor for first year students it means that I am one of the first people the students will rely on for their school related questions and maybe even for advice. My role includes being open minded, thoughtful and willing. My strengths that help me be successful in this role include being good listener and having the passion to help others.

There are many things I can always improve on as a peer mentor but two things I'd like to be better at would be to exude more positivity and optimism as well as be a better facilitator when interacting with a large group. I think it would be very important for me to learn new strategies that can allow my group of students to be more comfortable and interactive.

  1. As someone who has been a peer mentor for a year already, how is it facilitating a large group? I know you said it's something you'd like to improve. I feel like this may be an area for me, as someone who is just joining the program, which may need help as well. I've never been great at large groups, but I'd like to be. What helps you and what specifically would you like to improve on?

  2. I would love to know/hear about problematic situations and how you handled it. It would be interesting to hear about your experiences with working with people you knew previously (if you had such).
