Peer Mentoring

A peer mentor has to be there for their mentees, no matter the circumstances.  A mentor is expected to help a student in their first year journey.  The mentor must help the first year students with any questions they have and assist them in figuring out their future plans at the university and in their career.  I believe my leadership and my compassion will really help me in my peer mentor position.  By being a leader, I am able to control a group of first year students, and help them all with their journey.  Being compassionate will help the students feel comfortable enough to talk to me.  If students think I truly care, they will be much more open in our conversations.  I believe the biggest challenge will be getting the students to really open up and have flowing conversations while we are in the group atmosphere.  Many students are more reserved when in a group setting.  I believe students will gain a lot from our interactions.  I believe that having my own experience with SSS will give great incite to explain what students should expect in their first year.  I believe I will be able to help them in an effective manner and teach them about the University.  I believe through my own experiences I can help them gain and understanding of their expectations of their first year here at NAU.

  1. I think being a leader are both really great qualities for this and I like how you present it. I like how you addressed each mini job within our job.
